Who is Liza Barcelona, could you please introduce yourself?

I am Liza Barcelona, co owner of Grind and Graft Custom Decor.  My background is in Architecture Design Technology and Adult Education.  I love to create, collaborate and make unique pieces.

What is your business and when did you start?

Grind and Graft Custom Decor is a boutique shop specializing in creating personalized products that are perfect for any occasion.  We provide custom laser engraving and etching on our pieces to make them one of a kind and designed to last a lifetime. We opened our online shop in 2022.

What inspired you to start your business?

We started our business during the pandemic and  the inspiration for our business stems from our passion to create unique pieces that give people a sense of joy and feel special.

What were the challenges in the initial stages of your business and how did you overcome them?

The challenges we faced in the beginning was to create a sense of identify for ourselves and understanding how to use technology to leverage our business.

What motivates you about your business?

What motivates us is our customers. Communicating and collaborating with them and feeling their excitement to see the finished product.

What advice would you give to other entrepreneurs?

Don’t give up! It’s going to be difficult but it will be worth it when you start to see your hard work pay off.  Get together with a community of like minded people (like Mom2Mom Biz), network, keep an open mind, collaborate and enjoy the journey.

Interesting fact most of the people do not know about you?

I am a closet singer and love to belt out tunes in the car.

The best business advice I ever received was…

Be organized, flexible, nimble.  Think creatively and focus on customer service.  Be innovative and continuously improve operations.

My definition of success is…

not only measured by profits but also the personal satisfaction of knowing you worked hard to achieve your goals and the company’s goals.

If I could go back in time when I started my business, I would tell myself to…

not to forget to smell the roses in between the Grind and Graft so you don’t get burned out.

Three books I recommend for entrepreneurs are…

Side Hustle by Chris Guillebeau

Atomic Habits: An Easy & Proven Way to Build Good Habits & Break Bad Ones by James Clear

The Soul-Sourced Entrepreneur: An Unconventional Success Plan for the Highly Creative, Secretly Sensitive, and Wildly Ambitious by Christine Kane

My personal tagline is…

We believe that every item we carefully create (Grind) tells a story and holds a special meaning for the person who receives it (Graft)
