What is your business and when did you start?
Event Planner & Stylist and the Owner & Operator of Kim Torrance Services and Event Management company in Oakville. I launched my business in November 2017.
What inspired you to start your business?
After I left the corporate world, I took some time to reflect on what I wanted to do next. I kept coming back to events. My passion for event planning, decorating, styling and entertaining has always been a big part of me, and I knew I could make a difference for people. I absolutely love creating experiences for people that they can cherish for years to come.
What were the challenges in the initial stages of your business and how did you overcome them?
My initial challenge was I had never run my own business and so I wasn’t familiar with all the different aspects involved. I was new to networking, social media and some of the technology required to get started. However, I welcomed the challenge and started networking, set up my social media accounts with the guidance of professionals and I made a commitment to learn & grow my technology skills. I continuously learn every day.
What motivates you about your business?
I love to create memorable moments for my clients. Being able to bring the creativity and fun to an event is very special to me. I want to give as much as I can to as many people as I can. For this is where my happiness comes from. This is what truly brings meaning to my life. This is what makes my heart smile.
What advice would you give to other entrepreneurs?
Do your research and be open to speak to other professionals. Don’t be afraid to ask for help when you need it.
Interesting fact most of the people do not know about you?
I have always loved to dance from a very young age, so approximately 9 years ago I decided to take private ballroom dancing lessons. Dancing brought so much joy into my life. It was good for my soul, my confidence and overall well-being. I participated in showcases and national competitions which at times was very stressful, but equally very rewarding. Dancing has pushed me out of my comfort zone in beautiful ways.
