What is your business and when did you start?
I opened UROSPOT Oakville in September 7th, 2022.
For many people, the issues of bladder leaks, dribbles, and urgency is something they don’t like to talk about. Yet it is a condition that affects two out of three women, and sadly, once it starts, it only gets worse without some kind of intervention. At the brand-new location in Oakville, UROSPOT clients will discover a spa-like setting where bladder leaks and urge issues disappear by strengthening the pelvic floor muscles via the Kegel Throne. Clients remain fully clothed, and treatment is non-invasive and 100% pain free. This life changing innovation is a Health Canada approved technology that delivers 11,000 Kegel exercised in one 28-minute session. Full treatment typically includes a minimum of 6 sessions over a three-week period, with recommended maintenance every 4 months. Our compassionate team of healthcare professionals treat men and women ranging in age from 24 to 95.
What inspired you to start your business?
As a UROSPOT client I witnessed first-hand the life changing results of treatment and wanted to share the freedom and confidence I gained with women (and men!) in my community.
What were the challenges in the initial stages of your business and how did you overcome them?
UROSPOT Oakville is only six weeks old, so we are still in our initial stages! Generating awareness, amplifying education messages and assembling the best team of care providers has been our greatest challenges so far.
What motivates you about your business?
Female empowerment! Women have normalized bladder leaks and urgency as “part of being a woman.” This is simply not true. These issues are common, but not normal. Your body should not leak urine. Ever. Wearing bulky pads or diapers should not be something we settle for. These issues are typically a sign of dysfunction in your pelvic floor, and you deserve to have that problem solved.
What advice would you give to other entrepreneurs?
Have confidence in yourself and be open to learning even when it’s uncomfortable.
Interesting fact most of the people do not know about you?
My first-ever job out of university was with Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida as part of their International Program. I earned my “Duck-torate” and met my husband during this transformational career experience.
