Who is Hasmig Royan, could you please introduce yourself?
My name is Hasmig, and I am so happy to be a part of this Network! I have a husband, a son and a puppy. I absolutely love to travel and can’t wait to go on my next big adventure.
What is your business and when did you start?
My business is to create living art. I make all sorts of various items, including succulent planters, living walls, preserved moss art and botanical planters.
What inspired you to start your business?
I have always loved gardening and eventually transitioned it into a business. It allows me to express my creativity while working from home and being a stay-at-home mom for my son.
What were the challenges in the initial stages of your business and how did you overcome them?
My biggest challenge in the early stages of my business was the actual “business” side of it. I was very good at creating, but not so good at the rest. It’s still a work-in-progress for me, but I did take a few courses which have led me in the right direction.
What motivates you about your business?
I absolutely love to make people happy. I’ve always been a people-pleaser and love to hear feedback from clients that they are enjoying their new greenery.
What advice would you give to other entrepreneurs?
Take your business one step at a time. It can get very overwhelming with everything involved with running a business. Try not to get discouraged with the amount of work involved and try to remember that it can take time to build an audience and foster good relationships.
Interesting fact most of the people do not know about you?
When I was in younger, I was on a rope skipping team that won the world double-dutch championships. We travelled all across Canada, the US and Europe promoting Jump Rope For Heart and even appeared on TV a few times!
The best business advice I ever received was…
to network and connect with my audience. Building relationships is the key to success.
My definition of success is…
to continue to make my clients happy while still having time to spend with family and enjoy life.
If I could go back in time when I started my business, I would tell myself to…
I would tell myself to jump right in. I was very hesitant with starting this business, but it turned out to be exactly what I needed in my life.
