Who is Anu Raina, could you please introduce yourself?

I am a local Designer from Oakville, Ontario. I went to fashion school (London College of Fashion, England) and to an art school (Sheridan College, Textile program). Being a designer and an artist, I love to combine my knowledge of art and design to create unique and edgy collections of clothing and accessories. All my pieces are made in Toronto Canada.

What is your business and when did you start?

My business is Anu Rania clothing and accessories, established in 2010.

What inspired you to start your business?

Art and textiles have always been my passion since my childhood. So I felt it would be cool to design my own textile prints and design clothing and accessories in my original prints. I decided to turn  my passion into my business.

What were the challenges in the initial stages of your business and how did you overcome them?

I had two big challenges, I was new in the country and did not know anyone. My second big challenge was lack of finances.
I overcame my challenges by going back to school (Sheridan College) where I made lots of friends and won many scholarships and awards. I started my small business  with the scholarship money.

What motivates you about your business?

What I love about my business is that it is full of creativity, challenges and surprises, there’s never a dull moment. It is fast paced and I get to meet many beautiful people every day.

What advice would you give to other entrepreneurs?

Be at it! Rome wasn’t built in a day!

Interesting fact most of the people do not know about you?

I am vegan and I went to both a fashion school and an art school.

The best business advice I ever received was…

Don’t chase money, chase your heart, it will show you the way! (golden advice by my husband)

My definition of success is…

When I am able to inspire others, I am successful!

If I could go back in time when I started my business, I would tell myself to…

Believe in myself!

Three books I recommend for entrepreneurs are…

I don’t have three books tell you about  but I can tell you the book I read three times:

Reinvention by Arlene Dickinson

My personal tagline is…

If it is worth doing, it’s worth doing well (my father’s quote).
Put your mark on anything and everything you touch!
